Barb Newton

Barb Newton is president of Sunset Publishing Corporation, a Menlo Park, California-based company that is a subsidiary of Time Warner. In addition to Sunset magazine, the company also produces Coastal Living magazine, books, digital products, events, licensing, newsstand special editions and custom publishing for clients including the California Travel and Tourism Commission, Weber Grills, and General Mills.

Prior to this position, Newton served as president of Reiman Media Group, a subsidiary of Reader’s Digest Association, where she was responsible for 14 magazines and web sites, newsstand special editions, a line of books, a catalogue company, a tour company, a national cooking school, licensing, and an outlet store business. Prior to Reiman, she spent 18 years at Rodale Inc., where her leadership roles included senior vice president and managing director, Women’s Health Worldwide; vice president and director of publishing, Prevention; and vice president and publisher, Organic Gardening. Newton began her career as a media planner with the Dickinson Moore Advertising Agency.

She is on the board of Editorial Projects in Education, the pre-eminent publisher of news and information in pre-collegiate education, including Education Week, America’s education newspaper of record. She currently serves as treasurer. She also serves on the board of CalTravel, the California Tourism Industry Association.

Newton holds a master's degree in English Literature and a bachelor’s degree in English and Journalism from Lehigh University, where she was a National Merit Scholar.

She lives in the Bay area with her husband and two children.
