Terry Westrope
Terry L. Westrope is the Vice President of Ocean Park Hotels, Inc., a regional hotel development and management company. Ocean Park Hotels, Inc. is a privately held company, which was formed for the purpose of acquiring, renovating, developing and managing quality limited and select service hotels. We target markets and segments that are outside of the well-capitalized public companies and opportunity funds with substantial growth in demand and significant constraints on new supply. The Company allies itself with major hotel companies that enjoy global identity and reservation systems that offer the latest in guest amenities, comfort and technology. Our management is proactive to maximize revenues and minimize expenses without reducing guest satisfaction or neglecting asset quality with rewards to employees for performance, dedication and service.
Ms. Westrope serves as Vice President and as such, is responsible for the daily operation of the hotel management company operations and has administrative, financial and human resources oversight responsibility for nine operating hotels located in California. As Vice President, Ms. Westrope supervises the accounting, payroll/benefits and risk management/compliance functions of the company and acts as liaison with the legal and accounting professionals in the daily operation of the management company and the hotels. She is responsible for administering escrows for all buy/sell transactions of the entity, and has closed over twenty hotel sales and purchases throughout her career which includes extensive experience in liquor licensing requirements.
Prior to joining Ocean Park Hotels in 2006, Ms. Westrope was the Vice President- Administration & Finance for Sterling Hotels Corporation from 1989 to 2006, a regional third-party hotel management company specializing in turnaround properties located in San Luis Obispo. She had oversight of all administrative, financial, human resources/training, legal and risk management /compliance matters for the company with a portfolio of up to fifteen hotels. She was directly responsible for the boutique division of the portfolio, supervising the operations at non-franchised, boutique properties including bed & breakfast inns, establishing policies, procedures and protocols for that division. Two of the boutique properties experienced such a dramatic turnaround under Sterling’s management that they became very attractive to prospective buyers and were sold, garnering handsome profits for the sellers. Her career history in opening new hotels is extensive, and she is proud to have been on an opening team that earned a 100% score in opening a new Holiday Inn Express. Her experience in hotel brand requirements includes Marriott, Hilton, InterContinental Hotels Group, Best Western, Choice Hotels, Ramada and Microtel.
Ms. Westrope’s career in hospitality began in 1983 at F. McLintocks Restaurant in Shell Beach, where she served as Executive Assistant to the owners, and then she was hired by Laral Hotels, Inc. in 1985 where she was the Corporate Administrator until 1987. Her duties at Laral Hotels included hotel development, including the opening of the Park Suite Hotel (currently the Embassy Suites Hotel) in San Luis Obispo, where she was directly responsible for construction disbursements and bank draws.
Active in the tourism community, Ms. Westrope is currently a Commissioner on the California Travel & Tourism Commission, with a term spanning 2004-2011, serving as its Chief Fiscal Officer and Audit Committee Chair from 2006-2009. She served on the Board of Directors of the California Lodging Industry Association from 2001-2007 and was its Board Chair in 2005. She has been a guest presenter for numerous industry-related conferences and trade shows.
Her community involvement includes Chair of the Central Coast Economic Forecast (formerly the UCSB Economic Forecast Project). She is a founding member of the Cabrillo High School Alumni Association and has been active in the San Luis Obispo community on Boards of Directors throughout her career, both as a parent and as a career professional. She is a former member of the San Luis Obispo Rotary Club from 1993-2008, serving as the Club Secretary for seven years and is a three-time Rotary Paul Harris Fellow. Ms Westrope is a California Notary Public.
