FALL GRADUATE SPOTLIGHT:
KYLE ANDERSON
By: Alyssa Beatton (RPTA ’16), Staff Writer
Cal Poly baseball player Kyle Anderson returned from the minor leagues last fall to finish his degree in Recreation, Parks, and Tourism Administration.
Anderson came to Cal Poly in 2009 and was one of the baseball team’s pitchers for four seasons. His senior year was his best and most memorable to date, as he made all of his starts and finished the season with a 10-1 record. Following his senior season at Cal Poly, Anderson was disappointed when he was not drafted by a Major League team. But, opportunity presented itself when the Toronto Blue Jays invited Anderson to play for their minor league team. For the past two years, Anderson has been playing single A ball with the Vancouver Canadians, helping the team win the championship both years.
Anderson returned to at Cal Poly during the offseason to complete his RPTA internship. He worked for the Cal Poly Athletics Department under the Director of Facilities and found it to be a very eye-opening view of the management elements of sports. He said it was especially interesting to go from being a player to working behind the scenes on setup and preparation. Fall 2013 was his last quarter here, an experience he described as bittersweet. As far as his future is concerned, Anderson hopes to go to spring training and work hard to move up through The Blue Jays in order to continue his dream of one day becoming a Major League Baseball player. We wish him the best of luck!
