EXTRA, EXTRA, READ ALL ABOUT IT: RPTA HOSTS ANNUAL DINNER AND AUCTION FUNDRAISER

By Jenna Arocha (RPTA ’17)

Get your motors revved up for the RPTA Department’s annual dinner and auction fundraiser. This year the event will be held Saturday, Feb. 28, at the Santa Margarita Ranch. Why get your motors revved up? Because you’ll be “Cruisin’ California” with this year’s theme, experiencing various regions of beautiful California and its amazing tourism and hospitality industries.

The planning committee, comprised of 19 undergraduate RPTA students, has been working hard since last spring to bring the RPTA community the best auction dinner event yet, according to auction director and RPTA graduate student Megan Hobbs. “What is so unique about the auction and dinner event is that it is planned and run entirely by students, applying Cal Poly’s ‘Learn by Doing’ philosophy to bring together alumni, faculty, students, parents and friends.”

The 2014 event raised more than $30,000 -- the most in RPTA auction history – and the committee hopes to exceed that amount this year with a goal of $35,000 or more. Funds raised are used to support many RPTA programs and activities, including travel for RPTA’s Academic Quiz Bowl team to the annual National Recreation and Park Association Congress, faculty and student travel for presentations and meetings, awards and scholarships to outstanding students and alumni, and activities of Rho Phi Lambda and the RPTA Club.

This year's auction will feature a week stay at a waterfront home in Cape Coral Florida, a VIP day and game with the LA Dodgers, tours and tastings at several wineries, stays at hotels including the Dolphin Bay Inn and the Cliffs Resort, trips to Disneyland, sport memorabilia, a lithograph from "How the West Was Won" donated by Movie Producer and Director Todd Fisher and Actress Debbie Reynolds and more.

The registration deadline is February 22 and we sold out last year, so get your tickets today! If you can't make the event this year, but you are interested in making a tax-deductible donation to the auction or have any questions, please contact the planning committee at calpolyrptaauction@gmail.com. Be sure to “like” the RPTA Department on Facebook to stay up-to-date with details!

The RPTA Department is excited about this year’s auction and hopes to strengthen its programs through the help and support of your contributions.
