RPTA CLUB UPDATE: GET OUT, GET GOING, GET MOVING, GET REC'D!

By Hannah Baker (RPTA '13), Staff Writer

View of Bishops Peak in SLOWhere can you find free food, laughter, and cool people all in one place?  Well, that sounds like a typical RPTA Club get together, of course! With bi-monthly meetings, the RPTA Club gathered up RPTA students and friends from other majors to learn about upcoming events and volunteer opportunities listen to guest speakers, win raffle prizes, and much more.  The 2012-2013 academic year has been one to remember.

RPTA Club has had some wonderful opportunities to participate in various local events within San Luis Obispo County.  To start the year off strong, a group of club members volunteered their time at the Annual Morro Bay Harvest Festival. Volunteers worked alongside other Cal Poly students from various clubs to earn a stipend that went towards the club’s general fund for the year. This money aided in the purchase of this year’s club t-shirts that read ‘Get Out, Get Going, Get Moving, Get Rec’d‘ on the front and ‘RPTA CLUB 2012-2013’ on the back.  As new members joined the club each quarter, they received a t-shirt and a guaranteed fun time!

This past spring quarter has been full of RPTA Club events.  A highlight event was Cal Poly Open House. RPTA Club had its very own booth located in the Ag Circle where t-shirts were sold and baked goods were given out by donation.  This was a great opportunity for club members to volunteer and speak to future Cal Poly students about RPTA and all that it stands for!  Additional spring quarter events included a hike to Big Falls, participation in Relay for Life, volunteering at Wildflower, fundraisers at Mr. Pickles and Teaberry Yogurt, and assistance in the planning of the RPTA End of the Year Banquet.

As the year came to a close, the outgoing RPTA Club officers said their goodbyes and passed on their roles to the new 2013-2014 officers.  A huge thank you goes out to the following RPTA Club officers who helped make this year’s RPTA Club a blast:  Brittany Glasnow, Kiefer Reischl, Chris O’ Meara, Julia Romero, Erika Segal, Laurel Thomson, Hannah Baker, and Kayla Weaver.  RPTA Club would also like to thank Kendi Root for her awesome advising of the club this year!

And now, it is time to welcome the newest officers of the RPTA Club for the 2013-2014 year:

  • President:  Josh Pighetti
  • Vice President:  Kristina Durels
  • Treasurer:  Charlotte Warren
  • Secretary:  Ashton Ulrich
  • Intramural Sports Coordinators/Ag Council Rep:  Sierra Gruss
  • Social and New Members Chairs:  Kendall Price and Keri Forsberg
