RPTA OUSTANDING SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: JAMIE DEHN

By Kevin Mould (RPTA '14), Staff Writer

Jamie DehnEach year, our department chooses to honor one senior for going above and beyond in his or her time as a student here. This year, that senior is Jamie Dehn. During her time in our Program, Dehn has been a member of two NRPA Academic Quiz Bowl Teams, served as an officer in Rho Phi Lambda (our professional honor society), and been on the planning committee for our department’s annual dinner and auction for two straight years.

During her junior year, Dehn was the youngest member of the 2011 Quiz Bowl team that took third place at the annual NRPA Congress in Atlanta, which also featured current RPTA alumni Ali Bickel, Amy Lepp, and Lauren Maston. In addition, she served as decorations chair for the 2012 dinner and auction at Windfall Farms, where she was in charge of the atmosphere and getting everything set up. Finally, as a Rho Phi Lambda member, she helped to plan and orchestrate the organization’s annual career fair.

Dehn with Mould and McGinnity at 2012 Quiz BowlIn her senior year, Dehn took on an even larger role. In October, she captained the national champion 2012 Quiz Bowl Team that won in dominating fashion at the NRPA Congress in Anaheim and which also featured Jordaine McGinnity, Hayley De Carolis, and Kevin Mould. Following that, she served as committee chair for the 2013 Auction & Dinner, which took place at the SLO Veteran’s Hall.  As she noted, “It was a lot of work, but I had an amazing team that pulled out all the stops.” In addition, Dehn served as Rho Phi Lambda Treasurer for fall and winter quarters of this year before embarking on her internship at Valentina Suites in Pismo Beach. She currently works as a marketing coordinator for Valentina Suites.

As if all of this weren’t enough, Dehn put the finishing touches on her duties by assembling planning and study binders full of helpful materials for future auction committees and Quiz Bowl teams to reference. Without a doubt, Dehn is one of the most driven individuals our department has seen, and she will surely move forward into what is bound to be a successful future.
