RPTA OUTSTANDING SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: KEVIN MOULD

By Brian Greenwood, Faculty advisor

Kevin poses on a hikeWhen the nomination process for Outstanding Senior commences annually, the RPTA faculty generally discusses and considers several students for the prestigious award. When that time came this year, I began the discussion with, "Has there ever been a student who has done more for this department than Kevin Mould?" While that question is certainly a difficult one to answer fully, considering the long history of our department, I genuinely believe Mould's record of service to be second to none. The RPTA faculty agreed, and this year we named Kevin Mould as RPTA's 2014 Oustanding Senior.

Here's a mere glimpse into his service to the department over the last few years:

  • Officer, Rho Phi Lambda - Check
  • Organizer, RPTA's Annual Career Fair - Check
  • Captain, Academic Quiz Bowl team (2013) - Check
  • National Champion, Academic Quiz Bowl (2012) - Check
  • Editor, "The Report," RPTA's bi-annual newsletter - Check
  • Staff writer, "The Report" - Check
  • Open House, WOW Orientation, RPTA faculty searches - Check, check, check!

When we needed a student to step up, Mould was always there to do just that, and his example of tireless service is one that all RPTA students should strive to emulate.

Mould poses while serving as an intern for the 49ersThe experience that he gained in being a department leader resulted in confidence to step out and become a leader in other arenas as well. While on campus, Mould served as an intern for Cal Poly Athletics and more specifically, the Men's Soccer program, over the last year or so. Mould and Melissa Moberg (RPTA '14) did such a fabulous job as interns that other head coaches have since reached out and formed sport program-specific internships themselves. All of these fabulous experiences led to Mould securing not one, but two, high-level internships in the Bay Area after graduation. He is currently working as an event marketing intern for both the San Francisco 49ers and George P. Johnson.

Thanks, Kevin, for all of your service and leadership to the department during your career at Cal Poly. We know you will continue to make us proud!
