Summer 2017 Newsletter Extended: Meet The Staff

Meet the Staff for "The Report" Summer 2017 Newsletter

Staff for "The Report" are nominated by EIM faculty for demonstrating excellent writing skills in RPTA classes. Student writers then coordinate with the editor and faculty advisor Dr. Keri Schwab to develop and write articles.

Here's more about the staff:

Anna Bach co editorKristen Byron (RPTA '17), Editor and Staff Writer
Byron, a graduating senior at Cal Poly, is honored to be the editor for The Report. After four years at Cal Poly she has adapted quite nicely to the San Luis Obispo lifestyle, but she will always call Danville, a northern Calif. suburb, home. During her senior year in the EIM Department, she held the position of secretary for Rho Phi Lambda, EIM’s academic honors society, and was on the EIM 2017 Dinner and Auction Committee. As a graduating senior, she is sad to be leaving Cal Poly and the EIM Department, but she is excited to start her internship at Launch, Inc., a private event planning company in San Francisco. During the past four years, she enjoyed all the activities San Luis Obispo has to offer, including hiking Big Falls, kayaking in Morro Bay, and visiting Hearst Castle. Byron loves the students, faculty, and staff within the EIM department and is so happy to have been a part of it!

Kristen Byron staff writerBerlin Lopez (RPTA '17), Staff Writer
Berlin Lopez, a soon to be graduate in Fall 2017, is originally from Menifee, California. Growing up between Los Angeles and San Diego was exciting and full of options; moving to San Luis Obispo for college was a little different. Berlin is grateful to call San Luis Obispo her home during her college career because it gave her a chance to enjoy hikes, the beach, and meeting new people. She has been involved at Cal Poly with different organizations on campus to put on events for students. Her last quarter at Cal Poly will consist of being a Week of Welcome leader for the second time, hiking as many trails as she can fit into her schedule, and enjoying all that SLO has to offer. With a Hospitality and Tourism Administration concentration, she hopes to make a career out of Destination Marketing.

Tori Perrella staff writerJo Kirkby (RPTA '18), Staff Writer
Jo Kirkby is a third year student from Berkeley, California. She is concentrating in Event Planning and Management and Hospitality and Tourism Administration, with a minor in Integrated Marketing Communications. She is President of Rho Phi Lambda EIM’s Honors Society and served on the EIM 2017 Auction and Dinner Committee. She also plays on the club soccer team at Cal Poly. This summer, she will spend her sixth summer working at a camp in The Sierras where she is able to blend her love of recreation and hospitality with exploring nature. In her free time she likes to bake, go on hikes, and travel.

Kat Porter (RPTA '17), Staff Writer
Porter is a fifth year student focusing on sport management and event planning.  She is from Chico, Calif. but considers San Luis Obispo to be her second home.  While at Cal Poly she has been involved with Greek life, ASI, RPTA Auction and Dinner committee, and Rho Phi Lambda honor society. After graduating she hopes to pursue a career experiential marketing where she can plan fun and exciting events.    In her free time she enjoys traveling, going to concerts, and being outside.

During her time at Cal Poly, she has been involved in countless organizations on campus including New Student & Transitions Programs, RPTA Club, and Rho Phi Lambda. When she is not in class, Duncan enjoys hanging out with friends, hiking, and going to SLODOCO for their gluten free donuts. After graduation, Duncan plans on traveling before heading off to grad school to earn her master in Recreation, Parks & Tourism Administration. Duncan is honored to be apart of this years EIM Newsletter and could not think of a better way to end her time at Cal Poly!
